About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant to support pupils with a range of additional needs, including Autism and Moderate Learning Difficulties. This role involves working closely with class teachers and SENCOs to provide tailored support, helping pupils engage with learning and develop socially and emotionally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEND
  • Support children with SEND needs, helping to manage behaviour positively
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils
  • Assist in delivering personalised learning plans
  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff and external professionals
  • Support pupils during transitions and unstructured times

Requirements

  • Previous experience working with children or young people (school or similar setting)
  • Experience supporting SEMH, SEN, or challenging behaviour (highly desirable)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Patience, resilience, and a calm approach
  • Ability to adapt to different situations and school environments
  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)

Desirable (but not essential)

  • Experience working as a Teaching Assistant (including supply work)
  • Safeguarding or Team Teach training
  • Knowledge of SEND needs such as ASD or ADHD
  • Background in care, youth work, or support roles
