We are seeking an experienced and fully qualified SEN Teacher to join our dedicated team in a secondary school environment, supporting pupils whose academic and developmental levels are primarily within the primary range. This role is ideal for a teacher who is passionate about inclusive education, skilled in adapting the curriculum, and committed to improving outcomes for pupils with complex additional needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging, differentiated lessons aligned to primary-level expectations within a secondary SEN setting
- Plan and adapt lessons to meet a wide range of needs including ASC, ADHD, SLD, MLD, SEMH, and speech & language needs
- Create and maintain individualised learning programmes, including EHCP targets
- Use a variety of specialist teaching strategies, visual supports, and sensory approaches
- Manage classroom behaviour using positive behaviour support strategies
- Track progress using appropriate assessment and evidence-based approaches
- Work effectively with Teaching Assistants, Therapists, SENCOs, and external professionals
- Maintain a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment
- Communicate effectively with parents/carers and contribute to multi-agency meetings
Essential Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS or equivalent)
- Proven experience teaching pupils with Special Educational Needs
- Experience delivering primary-level curriculum to older pupils
- Strong understanding of inclusive and adaptive teaching practices
- Ability to manage behaviour calmly and consistently
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Strong commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing
Desirable Criteria
- Experience in an SEN school or specialist provision
- Training in Autism-specific approaches, Makaton, PECS, or sensory integration
- Knowledge of EHCP processes and annual reviews
- Experience working with pupils with complex or challenging behaviour
- Team Teach or positive handling training (or willingness to undertake)
