SEMH Teaching Assistant

Are you dedicated to supporting young people with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs? If so, this role is for you! A specialised SEN school in Christchurch is seeking a passionate Teaching Assistant to join their team!
The Role
As a Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) focused Teaching Assistant you will play a key role in providing the best support possible to students aged 11-16 years old. This is a Pupil Referral Unit setting for pupils unable to access mainstream education due to needs and diagnoses of the following:
- Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, including anxiety and behavioural difficulties
- Medical-based needs preventing mainstream attendance
- Many pupils have experience disrupted education and require tailored, extensive support
Facilities:
- Small, nurturing classes; calm spaces for pastoral and therapeutic support
Curriculum:
- Core subjects (English, Maths, Science, Geography, Art, Food Tech, PE, PSHE) leading to GCSEs, ASDAN, functional skills, and vocational qualifications
- Individual Education Plans aligned with EHCPs using the graduated response model
- Partnerships with Educational Psychologists, SENSS, CAMHS and health professionals, with targeted literacy/spelling/dyscalculia intervention
Who We Are Looking For
- SEMH experience in or out of an educational setting
- Able to collaborate with teachers and other support staff
- Understanding of challenging behaviours
- Understanding of positive behaviour support strategies
- Able to de-escalate challenging situations calmly and safely
