A supportive and well-established SEN school in Macclesfield is seeking a caring and committed SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team after the May half-term, with the role initially running until Christmas and the potential for extension. Key Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with a range of SEN needs
  • Assist in implementing personalised learning plans and interventions
  • Support pupils’ academic, social, and emotional development
  • Foster a positive, safe, and inclusive learning environment
  • Use appropriate behaviour management strategies in line with school policies
  • Support communication and interaction using tools such as visual aids, PECS, or Makaton (where appropriate)
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCO, and external professionals
  • Monitor and record pupil progress, providing feedback to teaching staff
  • Assist with personal care where required (training provided if needed)
  • Ensure safeguarding procedures and policies are followed at all times
Candidate Requirements
  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN (in school or similar settings)
  • A patient, empathetic, and resilient attitude
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build positive and trusting relationships with pupils
  • Understanding of SEN, particularly ASC, SEMH, or communication needs
  • Ability to remain calm and adaptable in a fast-paced environment
  • A genuine passion for supporting students with additional needs
Desirable Skills and Experience
  • Experience within an SEN or specialist school setting
  • Knowledge of behaviour management approaches (e.g., Team Teach)
  • Experience supporting non-verbal pupils or communication strategies
  • Relevant qualifications (Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, CACHE, or similar)
