About the Role
We are seeking a reliable, proactive and skilled Caretaker to join our team at a welcoming and inclusive secondary school in St Helens. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining a safe, secure and well-presented environment for students, staff and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure the school site is clean, safe, secure and well maintained at all times
- Carry out basic maintenance and repairs (e.g. plumbing, painting, minor electrical work)
- Open and close the school premises, including evenings or weekends when required
- Monitor and maintain heating, lighting and alarm systems
- Conduct regular health safety checks and risk assessments
- Manage site security, including responding to alarm call-outs where necessary
- Oversee contractors on site and ensure compliance with safeguarding procedures
- Assist with setting up rooms for events, exams and school activities
About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Has previous caretaker, facilities or maintenance experience (preferably in a school or similar setting)
- Has good practical skills and can carry out minor repairs
- Understands health and safety procedures
- Is reliable, organised and able to work independently
- Has good communication skills and a friendly, approachable manner
- Is flexible and willing to work occasional evenings or weekends
