The school is looking for a Teaching Assistant with ALN experience – this role is full time, working with two boys in Year 4 who both have similar complex needs. The boys are taught within a mainstream classroom, so you would be their mentor, guide, and support throughout the day to assist with tasks as set by the class teacher.
You must have a creative and open mind to working with these two boys. We are looking for someone who can engage the children by adapting their work to fit within the child’s interests, and to be as kind, passionate, and caring as possible with the understanding that these boys aren’t the same as the majority of the class. They are unique.
You will also require resilience and a good sense of humour for the more challenging days, as they will happen! Positivity and not giving up at the first hurdle is key for these pupils.
This school itself is a community-centred school catering for just over 320 pupils in the east of Cardiff. Nearly 100 of these attend the nursery on a part-time basis. The school opened in September 2015 and is intended to grow year-on-year to provide eventually for pupils of the full primary age range. The average of pupils eligible for free school meals over the last three years is around 9%, which is below the national average of 18%. The school identifies 18% of pupils as having additional learning needs and around 23% of pupils have English as an additional language. It’s a very diverse and welcoming school to be in, for pupils and staff alike.
