Are you an experienced and qualified Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) who thrives on making a real difference? We are looking for a passionate and committed HLTA to join a friendly, specialist educational setting that supports learners aged 11–19 with moderate learning difficulties and additional needs.
About the Role:
You will play a vital role in supporting high-quality learning and helping all students to achieve their goals. Working alongside teachers and support staff, you will deliver planned learning activities across small groups and whole classes, and may be asked to lead lessons in the absence of the class teacher. Your work will contribute to students’ academic progress, independence, social development, confidence, and wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver structured learning and intervention sessions to individuals and groups
- Provide cover across classes where needed, maintaining continuity of learning
- Support pupils with complex learning needs, including those with communication, social, and behavioural challenges
- Contribute to planning, assessment, and tracking of pupil progress
- Promote an inclusive environment where every learner feels safe, valued and respected
- Collaborate actively with teachers, therapists, and multi-disciplinary staff
Essential Requirements:
- HLTA qualification (required)
- Prior experience supporting learners with special educational needs
- Excellent communication and behaviour-management skills
- Ability to adapt teaching approaches to match pupils’ individual needs
- A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach
Desirable Attributes:
- Knowledge of strategies for supporting social communication, independence skills, and emotional regulation
