A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Burnley is recruiting a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2026. This is a full-time opportunity to support pupils with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs in a positive and nurturing school environment.
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils across the primary age range, providing 1:1 and small group support to help them access learning, regulate behaviour, and develop key social and emotional skills. The school promotes a positive, relationship-based approach to behaviour and is committed to working closely with families to support each child’s development.
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs
- Support behaviour management using positive and proactive strategies
- Help pupils develop emotional regulation, resilience, and social skills
- Work alongside class teachers and the SENCO to deliver targeted support
- Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils
- Support communication with parents/carers and contribute to a holistic approach
- Assist in creating a safe, inclusive and engaging learning environment
Experience working with children or young people (essential)
Experience supporting SEMH or challenging behaviour (desirable)
Relevant qualification (Teaching Assistant, Childcare, Youth Work or similar) (essential)
Strong behaviour management skills
Calm, patient, and resilient approach
Ability to work effectively as part of a team
