We are seeking a dedicated, resilient, and compassionate KS3/KS4 Teacher to join our specialist provision supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Based in North Bristol, this rewarding role offers the opportunity to make a lasting difference in the lives of pupils who require a nurturing, structured, and trauma‑informed educational environment. You will teach and support students across Key Stages 3 and 4, delivering engaging and differentiated lessons that enable learners to achieve both academically and personally. Many pupils may have experienced adverse childhood experiences, disrupted education, additional SEND needs, or barriers to learning that require a highly personalised approach.
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging lessons tailored to the individual needs of learners with SEMH needs.
- Create a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.
- Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils to support engagement and emotional regulation.
- Use restorative and trauma‑informed approaches to behaviour management.
- Monitor, assess, and record student progress against academic targets and EHCP outcomes.
- Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, pastoral staff, therapists, families, and external agencies.
- Contribute to individual support plans and annual reviews.
- Support pupils in developing confidence, resilience, social skills, and readiness for adulthood.
Qualifications
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) or equivalent teaching qualification.
- Experience teaching KS3 and/or KS4 students.
- Knowledge and understanding of SEMH, SEND, trauma‑informed practice, and behaviour support strategies.
- Strong classroom management and de‑escalation skills.
- Excellent communication and relationship‑building abilities.
- A flexible, patient, and solution‑focused approach.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
Desirable
- Previous experience within an SEMH school, alternative provision, PRU, or SEND setting.
- Team Teach, MAPA, Thrive, or equivalent behaviour support training.
- Experience supporting pupils with ASD, ADHD, attachment difficulties, or trauma backgrounds.
