Do you believe that the right support, delivered at the right time, can change a young person’s life? Teaching Personnel is working in partnership with a specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) school in Bolton to recruit a full-time Intervention Support Practitioner from September. This role is ideal for someone passionate about supporting pupils who may experience emotional dysregulation, trauma responses, anxiety, attachment needs, ADHD, challenging behaviour, or difficulties with social interaction and self-regulation.
This is more than a support role — it’s a chance to be a consistent, calm and positive influence for pupils who need it most.
The Role
As an Intervention Support Practitioner, you will work closely with students on an individual and small-group basis, helping them to overcome barriers to learning and develop the skills they need to succeed both in and out of the classroom.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver targeted interventions to support emotional regulation, behaviour, engagement and learning
- Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs
- Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils who may struggle with authority or boundaries
- Support pupils to manage behaviour, emotions, and social interactions in a safe, consistent way
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SEN staff, therapists, and pastoral teams
- Implement and follow EHCPs, Behaviour Support Plans and risk assessments
- Use de-escalation strategies and trauma-informed approaches to support pupils during challenging moments
- Act as a positive role model, promoting resilience, confidence and self-belief
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who is resilient, empathetic and committed to making a difference. You will ideally have:
- Experience working with SEMH, SEND, at-risk youth or challenging behaviour
- A calm, patient and consistent approach to behaviour management
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- An understanding of trauma-informed practice (or a willingness to learn)
- The ability to remain positive and professional in challenging situations
- Experience in education, youth work, care, psychology, mental health or similar fields (desirable, not essential)
