Teaching Personnel are currently recruiting for a Youth Worker / Behaviour Mentor to work full time across Wigan and Bolton in a range of secondary schools, PRUs, and SEMH provisions. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about supporting young people who may be at risk of disengagement from education, helping them to develop positive behaviour, resilience, and emotional regulation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide mentoring and pastoral support to young people with behavioural, emotional, and social difficulties
  • Build strong, trusting relationships to help students re-engage with education
  • Support pupils experiencing SEMH needs, trauma, ADHD, ASD, and behavioural challenges
  • Use behaviour management and de-escalation techniques to support students in crisis situations
  • Deliver 1:1 mentoring sessions focused on emotional wellbeing, attendance, and behaviour targets
  • Work closely with pastoral teams, SENCOs, and teaching staff to support student progress
  • Encourage positive decision-making, self-esteem, and personal development
  • Act as a positive role model both in and outside the classroom

Qualifications

  • Experience working with young people (youth work, sports coaching, SEN, behaviour support, or similar)
  • Confident supporting students with challenging behaviour and SEMH needs
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Calm, resilient, and able to manage challenging situations effectively
  • Passionate about supporting vulnerable young people to achieve positive outcomes
  • Behaviour training (e.g. Team Teach) is desirable but not essential
