A highly supportive and specialist provision in Blackburn is seeking a committed and experienced Level 3 Teaching Assistant to join its team from September. The school caters for pupils with a range of complex needs, including autism spectrum conditions, communication difficulties, and associated social, emotional, and learning needs, and is dedicated to providing a structured, nurturing, and personalised learning environment.
This role involves working closely with teaching staff to support pupils with diverse and often complex needs. The successful candidate will help deliver highly individualised learning programmes, promote independence, and support pupils in developing key life skills alongside their academic progress.
- Provide 1:1 and small-group support tailored to pupils with autism and additional needs
- Assist in delivering individualised education plans (EHCP outcomes)
- Support pupils’ communication, behaviour regulation, and sensory needs
- Help create a structured, predictable learning environment using strategies such as visual supports and routines
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other professionals
- Promote positive behaviour using consistent and supportive approaches
- Support pupils' personal development, independence, and wellbeing
Requirements:
- A Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent)
- Experience working with children or young people with autism and/or complex needs
- Understanding of structured teaching approaches (e.g. TEACCH, visual timetables, communication aids)
- A calm, patient, and resilient approach
- Ability to build positive relationships with pupils who may have communication and sensory differences
- A strong team player with excellent communication skills
