We are currently seeking a dedicated and resilient Behaviour Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEMH provision in Blackburn, working with pupils across Key Stages 3 and 4. This is a full‑time position starting in September, initially on a temporary basis with the opportunity to become permanent.

The Role

  • Support students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them to access learning, regulate behaviour, and develop positive relationships.
  • Work closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams to promote a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with SEMH needs.
  • Support behaviour management strategies in line with school policies.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to encourage engagement.
  • Assist with the delivery of lessons and adapted learning activities.
  • Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and social development.
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and external agencies where required.

Requirements

  • Minimum Level 3 qualification (or above) in a relevant field.
  • A degree is desirable (any subject considered).
  • Previous experience working with children or young people, ideally within an SEMH or SEN setting.
  • Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • A proactive, patient and resilient approach.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and supporting vulnerable learners.
  • Valid DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
