SEN Teaching Assistant – 1:1 Support in Bridport, Dorset. Teaching Personnel is working in partnership with a welcoming local primary school in Bridport to recruit an experienced and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated 1:1 support to a Year 5 pupil. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs and wants to make a genuine difference to a pupil's learning, confidence and development.
The Opportunity
As a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider school team to provide consistent, individualised support throughout the school day. You will help the pupil access learning, develop independence and feel confident and included within the classroom and wider school environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a Year 5 pupil.
- Support the pupil to access the curriculum and participate fully in lessons.
- Adapt learning activities and resources to meet individual needs.
- Develop a positive, trusting and professional relationship with the pupil.
- Encourage independence, confidence and engagement with learning.
- Support emotional regulation, communication and social development where appropriate.
- Promote positive behaviour and use agreed strategies consistently.
- Work collaboratively with the class teacher and SENCO.
- Provide feedback regarding the pupil's engagement and progress.
- Support the pupil during transitions, break times and other parts of the school day.
- Follow the school's safeguarding, behaviour and SEN policies.
- Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality at all times.
About You
- Experienced in working with children, particularly within a primary school or SEN setting.
- Confident providing 1:1 support.
- Patient, calm, caring and consistent.
- Able to build positive relationships while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
- Adaptable and able to respond to the individual needs of a pupil.
- Reliable, punctual and committed to the full placement.
- Passionate about helping children overcome barriers to learning.
- Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant, SEN Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Behaviour Support Assistant or similar would be highly beneficial.
