A specialist secondary SEMH provision is seeking a committed and resilient teacher to join a highly supportive team working with young people aged 11 to 16. The primary focus of the role is Maths; however, there is also scope for a strong general SEN teacher who may not be a Maths specialist. About the pupils

Pupils in this setting present with a range of social, emotional and mental health needs. Many have experienced trauma, adverse childhood experiences, anxiety, attachment difficulties, ADHD and autism. Their education has often been disrupted, and some may have negative associations with school.

They learn best in small classes with consistent routines, clear boundaries and adults who are calm, patient and relational in their approach. Emotional regulation, wellbeing and personal development are prioritised alongside academic progress. With the right support, pupils make meaningful gains in confidence, engagement and attainment.

About the role

You will teach Maths across Key Stages 3 and 4 where appropriate, adapting lessons to meet individual needs and starting points. For teachers without a Maths specialism, there is flexibility to teach more broadly across the curriculum while supporting Maths delivery with guidance from the wider team.

You will work closely with experienced teaching assistants, pastoral staff and leaders who understand SEMH and value trauma-informed, restorative practice.

  • Using calm, consistent and trauma-informed approaches to support behaviour and emotional regulation

Working pattern and pay

Monday to Friday, full-time, permanent role. Part-time may be considered for the right candidate. Paid to scale in line with teacher pay and conditions.

This role is suited to a reflective, patient and compassionate teacher who holds QTS and is committed to supporting young people with SEMH needs. Experience in SEMH or alternative provision is welcomed but not essential. Maths specialists are encouraged to apply, but strong SEN teachers who are open to delivering Maths with support are equally welcome.
