Teaching Personnel is recruiting caring and experienced SEN Specialist Teaching Assistants to provide 1:1 support for pupils with additional needs across a range of primary and secondary schools in Barnsley.
Whether you're an experienced SEN professional or have transferable experience supporting children or young people with additional needs, we have flexible opportunities available from September, including day-to-day supply, long-term placements, and permanent roles.
As an SEN Specialist Teaching Assistant, you will
- Provide dedicated 1:1 support to pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
- Build positive, trusting relationships that help pupils feel safe, supported, and ready to learn.
- Adapt learning activities to meet individual needs, working closely with the class teacher and SENCO.
- Support pupils with a range of needs, including Autism (ASC), ADHD, speech and language difficulties, SEMH, and learning difficulties.
- Encourage independence, confidence, and positive social interactions.
- Promote positive behaviour using consistent and supportive strategies.
- Monitor and record pupil progress, providing regular feedback to teaching staff.
- Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND, either in schools or similar settings.
- A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to build strong relationships with pupils, staff, and families.
- A proactive attitude and willingness to adapt to individual pupil needs.
- An enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
