Teaching Personnel is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a welcoming Welsh-medium primary school in Abergavenny.
This is an excellent opportunity for a confident and fluent Welsh-speaking HLTA who is passionate about supporting pupils' learning, development and wellbeing. You will work closely with the class teacher and wider school team, taking responsibility for delivering engaging lessons and targeted interventions, as well as providing support across the classroom.
The successful candidate will be confident working independently, able to build positive relationships with pupils and staff, and comfortable taking the lead when required.
Key Responsibilities
- Classroom Support: Work closely with the class teacher to support high-quality teaching and learning across the primary phase.
- Lesson Delivery: Plan and deliver engaging lessons, activities and learning sessions independently when required, in line with the school's curriculum and expectations.
- Small Group Interventions: Deliver targeted interventions in areas such as literacy, numeracy, Welsh language development and additional learning needs.
- Pupil Support: Provide tailored support to individual pupils and small groups, helping to improve confidence, engagement and academic progress.
- Welsh-Medium Provision: Communicate confidently and consistently with pupils in Welsh and contribute to the school's Welsh-medium environment.
- Behaviour Management: Promote positive behaviour and maintain high expectations, using consistent and nurturing approaches to support pupils' wellbeing and engagement.
- Assessment & Progress: Monitor pupils' progress and provide feedback to the class teacher and wider school team.
- Teamwork: Work collaboratively with teachers, teaching assistants, ALN staff and school leadership to ensure pupils receive effective support.
What We Are Looking For
- HLTA Experience: Previous experience working as an HLTA, Teaching Assistant, Cover Supervisor or in a similar educational role, with the ability to lead learning independently.
- Fluent Welsh Speaker: Fluency in Welsh is essential, with the confidence to communicate with pupils and staff through the medium of Welsh.
- Primary Experience: Experience working within a primary school environment and a good understanding of the needs of primary-aged pupils.
- Strong Classroom Skills: Confident managing a classroom, delivering learning activities and maintaining a positive and inclusive learning environment.
- ALN Experience: Experience supporting pupils with additional learning needs would be advantageous.
- Adaptable & Proactive: A flexible and proactive approach, with the ability to take initiative and respond effectively to the needs of pupils and the school.
- Safeguarding & Compliance: An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to complete one) and appropriate EWC registration are required.
