Teaching Personnel are working with primary schools in the NP7 area seeking dedicated, patient, and resilient Learning Support Assistants to provide 1:1 support for a primary-aged pupil with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), PICA, and behavioural needs. This is a rewarding role suited to individuals who can remain calm under pressure, build trusting relationships, and provide consistent support to help a pupil feel safe, engaged, and successful within the school environment.
About the Role
- Provide 1:1 support for a pupil with ASD, PICA, and behavioural needs
- Support communication, social interaction, and emotional regulation
- Follow individual support plans, risk assessments, and behaviour strategies
- Monitor and manage PICA-related behaviours, ensuring the pupil's safety at all times
- Use positive reinforcement, sensory strategies, and de-escalation techniques
- Support transitions, routines, and structured learning activities
- Encourage engagement, independence, and participation in classroom activities
- Work closely with class teachers, the SENCo, parents, and external professionals
- Help create a safe, nurturing, and consistent learning environment
Skills & Experience
- Experience supporting children with ASD and/or additional learning needs
- Understanding of PICA and the importance of vigilance and risk management
- Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
- Ability to build positive relationships and establish trust
- Understanding of safeguarding, wellbeing, and SEND practices
