Teaching Personnel’s Future Teachers Programme offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands‑on experience in a secondary school while earning a competitive salary and developing the skills needed for a future teaching career.

Based in Taunton, you will work alongside experienced teachers and school staff, gaining a realistic insight into life in the classroom before progressing towards teacher training.

Salary: £23,000 – £27,000 per annum
Start Date: January 2027
Location: Taunton
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm

Your Role

You will initially work as a Cover Supervisor, supervising lessons when teachers are absent and ensuring students remain engaged with their work.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Supervising classes across a range of subjects
  • Delivering pre-prepared lesson materials
  • Maintaining a calm, positive and productive classroom environment
  • Supporting students with their learning and coursework
  • Managing classroom behaviour in line with school policies
  • Assisting with revision and exam preparation
  • Building positive relationships with students and staff
  • Supporting wider school activities and events

Develop Your Teaching Skills

As part of the programme, you will have opportunities to observe experienced teachers and learn from established classroom practitioners.

You will gain insight into:

  • Classroom management and behaviour strategies
  • Lesson structure and effective teaching techniques
  • Differentiation and supporting different learning needs
  • Assessment and feedback
  • Supporting students with coursework and examinations
  • Safeguarding and professional responsibilities
  • The day-to-day expectations of working in a secondary school

Who We're Looking For

Previous school experience is beneficial but not essential. Most importantly, you should have a genuine interest in education, strong communication skills and the confidence to work with secondary-aged students.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
