This two-year Salaried Teacher Training Programme gives you the opportunity to experience what working in a school is really like, while earning a salary and building the skills you'll need for a successful teaching career.
In your first year you’ll join a Sheffield secondary school as a Cover Supervisor. You’ll supervise lessons, support pupils with their learning and work alongside experienced teachers, gradually building your confidence and classroom management skills.
Once you’ve gained that valuable experience, you’ll move into formal teacher training in your second year, where you’ll start planning and delivering your own lessons and work towards your PGCE and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
Your Two-Year Journey
Year 1 | Experience School Life
You’ll join the school as a Cover Supervisor, giving you the chance to discover what it really means to work in education. You’ll:
- Supervise classes and deliver pre-prepared lessons.
- Support pupils with their learning and encourage positive engagement.
- Develop effective classroom management techniques.
- Build relationships with pupils and staff.
- Gain an understanding of school policies, routines and expectations.
- Work alongside experienced teachers and support staff.
- Develop the confidence and skills needed for your next step into teaching.
Year 2 | Train to Become a Teacher
Having gained valuable classroom experience, you’ll progress into a trainee teacher role and begin your formal teacher training. You’ll:
- Plan and deliver your own lessons.
- Develop your teaching style and classroom practice.
- Assess pupil progress and provide meaningful feedback.
- Work closely with an experienced mentor.
- Complete your PGCE.
- Work towards Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
- Prepare for your first position as a fully qualified teacher.

Who is it for?

You’ll need a bachelor's degree in any subject, strong communication skills, a positive and resilient attitude and a genuine commitment to becoming a teacher.
