SEND & SEMH Teaching & Support Opportunities | East Sussex

There’s a lot happening across specialist education in East Sussex — and I’m looking for more great people to be part of it.

I’m currently recruiting across a range of SEND and SEMH schools throughout East Sussex, with opportunities for Teachers, Teaching Assistants, LSAs, Behaviour Mentors and other specialist support staff.

I work with primary and secondary settings around Hastings, Battle, Eastbourne, Hailsham, Seaford, Newhaven, Lewes and surrounding areas, with both flexible and longer-term opportunities available throughout the 2026/27 academic year.

Whether you’ve spent years working in SEND or you’re considering bringing your experience into specialist education for the first time, I’d be interested in hearing from you.

What kind of opportunities are available?

I regularly recruit for:

  • SEND & SEMH Teachers
  • Teaching Assistants and LSAs
  • Behaviour & Engagement Mentors
  • 1:1 Support
  • Pastoral & Intervention roles
  • Day-to-day cover
  • Long-term and ongoing placements

The schools themselves can be very different, which means there isn’t one particular type of educator I’m looking for.

Some roles need established specialist experience. For others, transferable experience from mainstream education, care, youth work, sports coaching, mentoring or tutoring can provide a really strong foundation.

What makes SEND different?

Before moving into recruitment, I worked directly within SEND education myself, and it’s still an area I particularly enjoy recruiting for.

You’re supporting much more than academic progress.

Relationships, communication, confidence, independence, emotional regulation and engagement can all form part of the work.

It can be challenging, and different pupils will need very different approaches. But that variety is also a big part of what makes specialist education interesting.

The right environment matters too.

When we speak, I’ll want to understand your experience, the young people you enjoy working with and what you’re looking for from your next role. From there, we can look at which opportunities genuinely suit you.

The practical details

Teaching Assistant and LSA opportunities are paid from £92.60 per day, with qualified teaching positions paid to scale where applicable.
