Teaching Personnel is recruiting a Sports Coach and PE Assistant for secondary schools across Durham, with positions available immediately. This is a coaching and activity-focused role rather than a formal teaching position - suited to someone with a strong sporting background who wants to work directly with young people, develop their skills, and contribute to the wider sporting life of a school.
You'll be working alongside PE staff, supporting curriculum lessons and leading extracurricular activities, coaching sessions, and school sport fixtures. For sports graduates or qualified coaches considering a move into education, this is an excellent entry point.
What the role involves:
- Supporting PE lessons across KS3 and KS4 alongside qualified teaching staff
- Leading and coaching extracurricular sports clubs, fixtures, and activities
- Working with students on a 1:1 and small group basis to develop sporting skills
- Encouraging participation, teamwork, and a positive attitude toward physical activity
- Supporting students with SEND or additional needs within a PE and sporting context
- Contributing to the wider school community through sport and enrichment activities
What we're looking for:
- A degree in Sports Science, Physical Education, or a related discipline - desirable
- Relevant coaching qualifications in one or more sports
- Experience working with young people in a coaching or sporting context
- Energetic, motivating, and confident working with secondary aged students
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
