Teaching Personnel is recruiting for a Sports & Engagement Mentor to work within secondary schools across Newport. This role is ideal for individuals with experience in sports coaching, fitness, team leadership, or mentoring who are passionate about supporting students both academically and personally.

About the Role
As a Sports & Engagement Mentor, you will primarily work within a classroom-based environment supporting students who may require additional encouragement, guidance, or behavioural support throughout the school day. You’ll help students remain engaged in lessons, develop positive relationships, and build confidence within school. The role may involve:
- Supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis or in small groups
- Encouraging classroom engagement and positive behaviour
- Acting as a positive role model and mentor for students
- Supporting students with emotional regulation and confidence
- Building strong relationships with pupils who may struggle within mainstream education
- Assisting teaching staff in maintaining a supportive learning environment
Although this is mainly a classroom-based role, there may also be opportunities to support within more active lessons, intervention sessions, sports activities, or practical learning environments where your sporting background can be a huge advantage. No two days are the same, making this an exciting and highly rewarding opportunity.

Requirements
To work through Teaching Personnel, candidates will need:
- An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
- EWC registration
- To be aged 18 or over
- Completion of a Level 2 Safeguarding Course during onboarding
- Two professional references covering the last 24 months
