The Role
Teaching Personnel are looking for a dedicated Secondary Teaching Assistant to join one of our partner secondary schools, supporting students aged 11–16. Working across all key stages and a range of abilities, you will play a vital role in supporting the school's day‑to‑day needs, helping students engage in learning, build confidence, and reach their full potential within a positive and inclusive environment.
Key responsibilities
- Work closely with teachers, the ALNCO, and pastoral teams to provide tailored academic and emotional support for students aged 11–16.
- Support students in building confidence, overcoming barriers to learning, and achieving their full potential.
- Provide 1:1, small‑group, and classroom‑based support throughout the school day.
- Support the development of students' social, emotional, and behavioural skills.
- Work alongside the school's Specialist Resource Base (SRB), providing personalised support for students with additional learning needs.
- Help manage behaviour positively and effectively, promoting a safe and inclusive learning environment.
- Support students during lessons, transitions, break times, educational visits, and wider school activities.
What We’re Looking For

Essential
- Experience working with children or young people in education, youth work, care, sports, coaching, mentoring, or similar transferable settings.
- A calm, patient, and resilient approach, with the ability to build positive relationships and manage challenges effectively.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, alongside a genuine commitment to student wellbeing and achievement.
- An understanding of the social, emotional, and developmental needs of secondary‑aged students, including those with Additional Learning Needs (ALN).
Desirable
- Experience supporting students with ALN, SEND, SEMH, or behavioural needs.
- Relevant qualifications or studies in Psychology, Education, Sports, Youth Studies, or other related subjects.
Requirements
- Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service
- Education Workforce Council (EWC) registration
- Be aged 18+
- Level 2 Safeguarding Qualification (Training for this course is provided during onboarding)
- Minimum of two professional references covering a minimum of 24 months employment
