Make a Real Difference Every Day

Teaching Personnel are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Autism Specialist Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive primary school in the Norris Green area of Liverpool from January 2027.

This rewarding full-time role involves providing 1:1 support for a pupil with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), helping them access learning, build confidence, develop social skills, and achieve their full potential within a nurturing classroom environment.

The school prides itself on its strong inclusive values, supportive leadership team, and commitment to providing every child with the opportunity to succeed. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Teaching Assistant, Support Worker, or SEND practitioner looking to further develop their career within education.

The Role

As an Autism Specialist Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting both the educational and emotional development of a pupil with additional needs. You will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and wider pastoral team to deliver personalised support throughout the school day.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with Autism, both in and outside the classroom.
  • Support the implementation of the pupil's EHCP and individual learning targets.
  • Adapt learning activities and resources to meet the pupil's needs and learning style.
  • Use effective communication and behaviour support strategies to encourage engagement and independence.
  • Promote emotional regulation, social interaction, and positive wellbeing.
  • Build strong relationships with teaching staff, parents, and external professionals.
  • Monitor progress, maintain accurate records, and contribute to review meetings when required.
  • Create a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment at all times.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs and who can build positive, trusting relationships.

You will ideally have:

  • Previous experience supporting children with Autism (ASC) in a school, childcare, or support setting.
  • Knowledge of SEND practices, sensory needs, and behaviour support strategies.
  • Experience working with EHCPs and targeted interventions.
  • A patient, resilient, and nurturing approach.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • The ability to remain calm and adaptable in a busy school environment.
  • A relevant Teaching Assistant qualification (desirable but not essential).
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one through Teaching Personnel.

Why Join This School?

  • Supportive and experienced leadership team.
  • Inclusive and child-centred ethos.
  • Strong focus on staff wellbeing and professional development.
  • Well-resourced classrooms and SEND provisions.
  • Opportunity to secure a permanent position within the school.
  • Excellent public transport links from Croxteth, Walton, Fazakerley, Kirkby, and Liverpool City Centre.

Why Work with Teaching Personnel?

  • Competitive weekly PAYE pay with no umbrella deductions.
  • A dedicated consultant to support you throughout your placement.
  • Free access to CPD and accredited training, including specialist SEND courses.
  • Opportunities for long-term, permanent, and flexible roles across Merseyside.
  • Ongoing safeguarding and professional development support.
  • Recommend a friend scheme and access to exclusive vacancies.
