School Site Manager / Site Assistant in Croydon

We are seeking an experienced and reliable School Site Manager / Site Assistant to join a busy school environment. The successful candidate must have previous experience working within a school site team and be confident in maintaining a safe, secure, and well-presented learning environment.

This role requires flexibility, as working hours may include early mornings, evenings, extended shifts, and occasional weekends to support school events, lettings, and extracurricular activities.

• Carry out day-to-day maintenance, minor repairs, and general handyman duties.
• Monitor and maintain school buildings, grounds, and facilities to a high standard.
• Conduct regular health and safety inspections around the site.
• Ensure classrooms, communal areas, and outdoor spaces remain safe and operational.
• Liaise with contractors and monitor their work when on-site.

• Support the school's health and safety procedures and policies.
• Carry out routine checks on fire alarms, emergency lighting, and security systems.
• Ensure all walkways, entrances, and exits are free from hazards.
• Maintain records of site inspections and maintenance activities.
• Report and address any health and safety concerns promptly.

• Open and secure the school premises daily.
• Respond to alarm activations where required.
• Monitor site security and challenge unauthorised visitors appropriately.
• Ensure gates, doors, and buildings are secured at the end of each day.

• Maintain outdoor areas, car parks, pathways, and sports facilities.
• Arrange for deliveries and movement of equipment around the school.
• Assist with setting up halls, classrooms, and event spaces.

• Support parents' evenings, open evenings, exams, school productions, and sporting events.
• Be available for occasional weekend work to support lettings and extracurricular clubs.
• Assist with room setups and site preparation for special events.

• Previous experience working as a School Site Manager, Caretaker, Premises Officer, or Site Assistant within a school setting.
• Strong knowledge of building maintenance and health & safety practices.
• Ability to carry out minor repairs and maintenance tasks.
• Flexible approach to working hours, including early starts, late finishes, and occasional weekends.
• Good communication skills and a proactive attitude.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.

• Health & Safety qualification (IOSH, NEBOSH, or equivalent).
• Experience managing contractors and site projects.
• Basic plumbing, electrical, decorating, or carpentry skills.
• Knowledge of school compliance requirements.
