Teaching Personnel is seeking a compassionate and dedicated PMLD Learning Support Assistant to work within a well-established specialist secondary provision in Carmarthen that supports pupils aged 3-19 with complex additional learning needs.

This setting supports learners with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), severe learning difficulties, autism, and complex medical needs.

The school provides a highly personalised, nurturing environment with a strong focus on communication, independence, life skills, and wellbeing.

About the Role

You will play a vital role in supporting pupils with complex needs to access meaningful learning experiences tailored to their individual Education Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

Responsibilities

  • Providing dedicated 1:1 and small group support for learners with PMLD.
  • Assisting with personal care, including toileting, feeding, and hygiene.
  • Supporting mobility using specialist equipment such as hoists and wheelchairs.
  • Engaging pupils in sensory-based and multi-sensory learning activities.
  • Supporting communication through PECS, Makaton, objects of reference, and assistive technology.
  • Working closely with teachers, therapists, and medical professionals.
  • Promoting independence, dignity, and emotional wellbeing.

Essential Requirements

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEN, PMLD, complex needs, or within a care setting.
  • A resilient, calm, and compassionate approach to supporting vulnerable learners.
  • Willingness and confidence to provide personal care.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Enhanced DBS (Child Workforce) on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
  • Registered with the Education Workforce Council (EWC) in Wales (or willingness to register prior to placement).
  • Commitment to safeguarding and child protection procedures.
