Location: East London (Barking & Dagenham, Redbridge, Newham, Havering)

Contract: Flexible / Ongoing

Pay: Competitive hourly rates – paid weekly

About the Role: Teaching Consultancy is looking for experienced SEN Teaching Assistants, Behaviour Mentors, and Residential Support Workers to support children and young people in care homes and alternative education settings across East London. You’ll be working with children who have social, emotional and behavioural needs (SEMH), SEN requirements, and may come from challenging backgrounds or have experienced school absence. Some placements may include overnight stays to provide consistent support and continuity of care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support children with SEN and behavioural needs in residential or education environments
  • Encourage engagement with learning and daily routines
  • Manage difficult behaviour calmly and effectively using de-escalation techniques
  • Work closely with teachers, residential staff, and therapists to ensure all-round support

Required Experience & Skills:

  • Minimum 6 months’ experience supporting children with SEN / SEMH or within a residential setting
  • Confident working 1:1 or in small groups with vulnerable young people
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
  • Able to provide strong, recent references
  • Reliable, compassionate, and physically/emotionally resilient
