Salary Description: Visiting music teachers are self-employed and bill parents directly. Posting date: 19/08/2025.

Opportunity

The Edinburgh Academy is seeking to expand the bank of self-employed Visiting Music Teachers (VMTs); specifically, an experienced and enthusiastic Guitar Teacher from August 2025. We anticipate this will require a commitment of one day of teaching per week. We welcome applications from well-qualified music graduates with relevant teaching qualifications and/or experience, with a proven track record in teaching pupils from primary to S6. The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic person with a passion to develop the Guitar programme at The Edinburgh Academy. Teaching can be situated across both sites of the Academy, Arboretum and Henderson Row, but initially we expect this will mainly be within our Junior School. The Academy sets a minimum charge for lessons and requires the VMT to pay a Facility Charge for the use of resources within the School. As a self-employed VMT, there is a direct relationship between the VMT and parent and the VMT is responsible for invoicing parents directly in respect of their agreed tuition fees. The VMT may have the opportunity for group coaching, or be required throughout the year to support school rehearsals or competitions such as the Edinburgh Competition Festival, St Giles’ at 6, Queen’s Hall concerts, School Burns’ Suppers, Speakers Dinners, end of year events etc. Such involvement would be remunerated at the hourly rate for that year.

Qualifications / The Ideal Candidate

  • Is an outstanding performing practitioner

  • Provides sound instruction
  • Is a prompt and effective communicator, in person and by email
  • Has excellent organisational skills
