We are seeking to recruit an appropriately experienced Rowing Coach to provide support to the Head of Rowing and to provide coaching for pupils at Senior School stages. The Assistant Head Rowing Coach is responsible for coaching Rowing to pupils aged 13-18 years. They are required to run sessions independently, from the planning and implementation of coaching sessions through to crew selection and organisation for fixtures. The Assistant Head Rowing Coach is expected to deputise for the Head Rowing Coach in their absence and to play an active role in assisting with the management and development of the Rowing provision at Heriot’s.

The position is for weekday afternoons and Saturday mornings during Term Time and will require travelling with pupils to away fixtures as required, including at weekends. Other hours will be agreed with the Head of Rowing. Furthermore, attendance at training camps may be required.

Ideal Candidate:

  • UKCC Level 2 qualification and/or experience of Junior Trialling System essential.
  • Valid Basic First Aid qualification is essential.
  • RYA Level 2 Powerboat qualification is desirable.
  • A proven track record of success in coaching Rowing/Sculling (including coaching pupils up to Age 18) is essential.
  • Full, clean driving license with ability and willingness to drive a minibus.
  • Proven awareness of long-term athlete development through experience and/or qualification in the area of Strength and Conditioning is required.
  • Experience of organising and managing.
  • Enthusiastic and inclusive approach to coaching Rowing with the ability to cater to pupils of various levels and abilities and motivating them to take part.
  • Reliable and punctual at all times.
  • Excellent communication skills with the confidence and ability to give clear instructions.

Additional Information:

Candidates should have some flexibility and be available to coach at weekends, during school holidays and attend training camp normally over the Easter Break.
