Erskine Stewart Melville are currently recruiting for a number of Sports Attendants to join the ESM Sports Centre on a temporary or casual basis. We are recruiting for a number of temporary Sports Attendants to join the team from 12 October 2026 to 25 October 2026 for a total of 30 hours per week over 5 shifts. We are also recruiting for Casual Sports Attendants to join the Sports Centre team on an ad-hoc basis. Candidates are welcome to apply for either or both of these roles and are invited to specify within their application which role(s) they wish to be considered for.

The successful candidates will be paid an hourly rate, starting at £12.77 per hour with scope for qualified candidates to receive an increased hourly rate. The roles will be based across the Ravelston and Queensferry Road Sites. The purpose of the role is to maintain a safe, clean, and enjoyable environment for customers.

Duties may include:

  • Carry out cleaning programmes for the fitness room and sports equipment, reporting any defects or breakages.
  • Maintain a high standard of cleanliness and maintenance in all areas of the centre.
  • Work at Reception, dealing with telephone calls and emails, and liaising with service users.
  • Setting up and taking down sports equipment, ensuring that all bookings start and finish on time.
  • Carry out inductions for first-time users of the fitness room to the highest standard, ensuring that the customer gains the knowledge and confidence to return and use the fitness room safely.
  • Lifeguarding the pool, ensuring that all pool safety rules are adhered to.

The successful candidate will have a positive attitude and solution-focused approach to their work, the ability to adhere to and follow instructions for current industry guidance ensuring Health and Safety standards are met and be able to multi-task and prioritise own workload with good attention to detail. It is preferred that candidates hold a National Pool Lifeguard qualification (NPLQ) and have previous experience of working in a school setting and/or a gym or fitness centre.

Eligibility: ESM is unable to sponsor the employment of international workers in this role. International applicants will therefore be unable to apply for and secure a Skilled Worker visa. The successful candidate will only be able to take up this role if they can demonstrate an alternative right to work in the UK.
