Loretto School is one of Britain’s leading independent boarding and day schools located on the outskirts of Edinburgh. We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to join our team as an Organ Visiting Music Teacher (VMT) within the Junior School and Senior School.
Main Purpose of the Role
We are looking for a candidate with high expectations of pupils, who will maintain the high grades achieved in recent years while also promoting a love of the subject inside and outside the classroom. You will plan, prepare, and teach lessons and prepare pupils for examinations, performances, festivals and auditions as appropriate. This may include individual, small group and whole class teaching as well as ensemble involvement if appropriate.
Experience, skills and qualifications
- Have suitable academic and practical qualifications
- Play for midweek school Chapel services, plus end of term Services and Concerts by arrangement
- Have experience teaching organ to pupils of all ages and levels of experience
- Have extensive knowledge of organ pedagogies
- Be able to teach across a variety of musical styles and genres
- Be passionate about teaching music in a progressive and innovative way
- Be able to nurture musical abilities in pupils of all ages
- Display excellent interpersonal and organisational skills
- Have experience entering candidates into ABRSM, and/or Trinity College, London
- Teach and maintain standards of excellence in GCSE and A-Level pupils
- Be able to work effectively as part of a team dedicated to the care and development of all pupils
- Be computer literate
- Be required to uphold the ethos and traditions of the school
- Appreciate working in a values-driven environment
