We are seeking an enthusiastic, caring and engaging Primary School Teacher with a special interest and experience in delivering Early Level CfE and play pedagogy to join the teaching team at The Edinburgh Academy Junior School and Nursery. This role will be based in our Nursery.

The Junior School and Nursery sits in its own self-contained campus in leafy Inverleith near to the Botanic Gardens providing the ideal environment for our youngest learners. The Nursery has its own purpose-built building consisting of 5 rooms for our children aged 2-5 years. The Nursery team consists of a Head of Nursery, a Nursery Teacher and an experienced team of Early Years Practitioners and Assistants. As part of The Edinburgh Academy School, the Nursery children experience specialist classes in PE, Music and Outdoor Learning, led by specialist teachers from across the school.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Work with the Head of Nursery to develop intentional plans based on curriculum coverage and seasonal themes in line with a Curriculum for Excellence and other national guidance such as Realising the Ambition.
  • Support the EYP teams to plan effectively for a range of interactions, experiences and inviting spaces.
  • Provide support and challenge for individual children.
  • Plan, assess and evaluate experiences to support the development of skills in Literacy, Numeracy and Health and Wellbeing, with a key focus on our preschool children.
  • Liaise with Head of Support of Learning and Head of Lower Primary to support the transition from Nursery to Primary 1.
  • Implement school policies and procedures including those related to positive behaviour, safeguarding, and equality, diversity and inclusion.
  • Work alongside the Head of Nursery to plan and implement a rigorous programme of self-evaluation and quality assurance.
  • Collaborate with all stakeholders to help design and implement a Nursery Improvement Plan in line with the School’s values and strategic vision.
  • Have knowledge and understanding of the Care Inspectorate standards, Realising the Ambition and be up to date on key policies and procedures.
  • Support the Nursery team in relation to daily management practices that ensure the smooth running of the Nursery with timetabling.
Collaboration, Communication and Professional Practice:
  • Collaborate with colleagues, parents, and external stakeholders to promote effective communication in support of children’s learning and wellbeing.
  • Coordinate and support EYPs to record and report observations on a bespoke online platform.
  • Communicate clearly, effectively and empathetically with parents through formal reports, parent meetings and informal feedback.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to professional learning in line with GTCS professional standards.
  • Uphold the School’s values and actively contribute to the wider school community, including Open Days, events and the Junior School co-curricular programme.
  • Be available for all staff meetings and professional learning events which includes all Inservice days throughout the year.
  • Carry out any reasonable additions to this list as deemed necessary by the Headteacher.
