The predicted salary is between 24420 - 28000 £ per year.

We are seeking an experienced and caring individual who is passionate about working with children and committed to providing high-quality before and after School or Nursery care for our pupils. The post holder leads a team of early years practitioners and playworkers who create a warm, engaging space where children can learn, thrive and play.

Our wrap-around provision consists of:

  • After School Club for both Nursery and Junior School pupils (age 2 to 11)
  • An After School Activities Programme (mostly for P3-6)
  • Early Birds Club (from 7.45am – 8.30am)

This is a full-time, term-time only post and would be ideal for an organised and proactive individual with experience of working in a school setting. The successful candidate would ideally be registered with SSSC or GTCS or be willing to register and undertake training in line with SSSC requirements. There will be an element of ‘hands on’ childcare when the children are in the service.

Main Responsibilities:

(The following makes up the key elements of the job, but this is not an exhaustive list of all tasks.)

Leadership and Management:
  • Lead the daily running of the wrap-around care sessions, ensuring smooth operation and high-quality provision for each part of the service
  • Line-manage staff, including organising rotas for each part of the service, identifying and organising training requirements, submitting timesheets and approving annual leave requests
  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels, paying particular attention to staffing ratios for Nursery aged children, and work with HR to recruit new team members when required
  • Establish and maintain an efficient pupil register, and work with Finance to ensure timely and accurate billing
  • Ensure all third-party suppliers are appropriately vetted with user-service agreements in place
  • Ensure prompt and effective communication with parents, including responding to ad hoc change requests and concerns
Administration:
  • Ensure sessions and activities are uploaded to ‘School Cloud’ to allow parents to view and pick sessions and activities
  • Produce class lists for teachers, practitioners and playworkers, as well as any external suppliers running activities
  • Provide up-to-date pupil and activity lists to teaching and nursery staff to ensure they know which children are due to attend wrap-around care and who is due to be collected at what time
Childcare and Activity Planning:
  • Plan and deliver a broad range of stimulating, age-appropriate activities for each part of the service, liaising with the Headteacher and teaching staff as required
  • Ensure resources are used appropriately and replenished where required, working within the set budget
  • Provide a welcoming, nurturing and supportive environment where all children feel safe and valued
  • Ensure safe supervision of children with appropriate staffing ratios
  • Provide healthy snacks and ensure good hygiene practices in line with Care Inspectorate requirements and Setting the Table guidance
Safeguarding and Compliance:
  • Ensure all staff follow school safeguarding policies at all times
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety, food hygiene, first aid and statutory requirements
  • Conduct regular risk assessments and address any hazards or complaints promptly
  • Administer first aid when required (training will be provided if needed)

Qualifications and Experience
  • SVQ (L3) Early Years Practitioner qualification or equivalent (D)
  • Registered or eligible for registration with the SSSC or GTCS (D)
  • Experience of managing, leading or supervising staff teams (E)
  • Experience working with young children in a play, care or educational setting (E)
  • Proficient in use of IT (E)
  • A knowledge of First Aid, Food Hygiene and Child Protection Training (D)
  • Experience of managing a budget and resourcing a setting (D)

As the position involves regulated work with children, the successful candidate will also be required to complete a PVG (Protecting Vulnerable Groups) application.
