Are you passionate about supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? Do you have the resilience, patience and adaptability to help students overcome barriers to learning? Are you looking for a rewarding permanent Teaching Assistant role within a supportive secondary school environment?

TeacherActive is proud to be working with a specialist SEMH provision within a secondary school in Colchester. The school is committed to creating a nurturing and inclusive learning environment where students are encouraged to build confidence, develop positive relationships and achieve their full potential through a therapeutic and student-centred approach.

The school is looking to appoint a permanent Teaching Assistant from September 2026 on a full-time basis. The successful Teaching Assistant will work closely with students who require additional emotional and behavioural support, helping them to engage with learning, develop social skills and achieve positive outcomes both inside and outside of the classroom.

The successful Teaching Assistant will have:

  • Experience working with young people with SEMH needs, challenging behaviour or additional learning needs
  • A relevant Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent experience
  • Excellent behaviour management and relationship-building skills
  • The ability to support students both academically and emotionally
  • A calm, patient and resilient approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
