TeacherActive is currently recruiting a dedicated and enthusiastic SEMH Learning Support Assistant to work within a trusted, welcoming primary school based in Witham.

As a SEMH Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with class teachers and pastoral teams to support pupils with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs in their learning and development. This includes providing one-to-one and small group support, delivering tailored interventions, and helping to create a positive, structured, and supportive learning environment.

A sports background is highly desirable, as many pupils respond well to active engagement and positive role models, although this is not essential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support teachers in delivering engaging and differentiated lessons for SEMH pupils
  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils with additional emotional and behavioural needs
  • Build positive relationships with students and act as a strong role model
  • Help maintain a calm, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment
  • Support behaviour management strategies and promote positive behaviour
  • Assist with the preparation and adaptation of learning materials and resources for individual needs
  • Encourage student engagement, confidence, and emotional wellbeing
Requirements
  • Previous experience working with children or young people, particularly SEMH needs (school, sports coaching, youth work, or similar setting preferred)
  • Patient, resilient, and adaptable approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
  • Sports coaching or sporting background desirable but not essential
  • Relevant qualifications (Level 2 or 3 in Education, Teaching, Childcare, Sports Coaching, or SEND desirable but not essential)
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
