Are you an experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) looking for a rewarding opportunity to support pupils' learning? Do you have the relevant qualifications to step into a key role within the school and make a real impact on student development? Are you passionate about working with children and supporting the teaching staff in delivering high-quality education?

TeacherActive is excited to be working with a primary school in Smethwick to recruit a dedicated and experienced HLTA. This full-time role will see you working five days a week from 8:15 AM to 4:00 PM, term-time only. The ideal candidate will have a HLTA qualification or QTS, especially if you are looking to gain more classroom experience.

Key Responsibilities of the HLTA:
  • Supporting the class teacher in planning and delivering lessons to ensure a positive learning experience for students
  • Leading small group or 1:1 interventions to support the learning and development of pupils
  • Helping to prepare resources and assist in the assessment of pupils’ progress
  • Taking responsibility for managing and supervising students when the teacher is unavailable
  • Providing a high standard of care and guidance to students, promoting positive behaviour and engagement
  • Assisting with administrative duties, including marking work, keeping records, and preparing teaching materials
  • Managing classroom behaviour and maintaining a safe and focused learning environment
  • Supporting pupils with additional needs and ensuring an inclusive classroom environment
  • Collaborating with teachers, other staff members, and parents to monitor student progress and wellbeing
The successful HLTA will have:
  • HLTA qualification or QTS
  • Previous experience working with children in a school setting
  • Strong understanding of the primary curriculum and effective teaching practices
  • Excellent classroom management and behaviour management skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Enthusiasm and passion for supporting children’s learning and development
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with students, staff, and parents
