TeacherActive is working closely with a supportive and inclusive primary school in Shoreditch as they look to appoint a compassionate and skilled Autism Specialist Teaching Assistant. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with experience supporting children with Autism (ASC) who is passionate about helping pupils thrive both academically and emotionally. This role requires someone who has had previous experience with SEND children and is proactive and hands-on with their work.

In this rewarding role, you will work closely with pupils on a one-to-one or small-group basis, helping them access the curriculum, develop communication skills, regulate emotions, and build confidence in a safe, structured environment. The school is known for its nurturing ethos, strong SEN support team, and commitment to personalised learning.

Key responsibilities:
  • Providing 1:1 support for pupils with Autism
  • Supporting learning, communication and social development
  • Implementing EHCP targets and personalised strategies
  • Working closely with the SENCO, class teacher and therapy teams
  • Helping maintain routines, structure and positive behaviour
  • Building trust and strong relationships with pupils
What you need:
  • Previous experience supporting children with Autism or complex needs
  • Understanding of visual supports, sensory needs and regulation strategies
  • Ability to remain calm, patient and supportive under pressure
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A positive, empathetic and child-centred approach
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
