About the Role:

TeacherActive is working in partnership with a dynamic and inclusive mainstream primary school in Tower Hamlets, seeking a resilient, compassionate, and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team. This full-time position involves supporting pupils from EYFS to Key Stage 2 who present with a range of special educational needs and significantly challenging behaviour, including SEMH, ASD, ADHD, and communication difficulties.

The school prides itself on its inclusive ethos, strong leadership, and a dedicated pastoral support system. For the right candidate, there may be opportunities to progress towards teacher training within the school.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with complex needs and challenging behaviour

  • Implement strategies to de-escalate incidents and promote positive behaviour and engagement

  • Support teachers in adapting lesson content and resources to meet individual learning needs

  • Work collaboratively with the SENCO, behaviour leads, and external professionals

  • Maintain detailed behaviour records and contribute to the development of IEPs/EHCPs

  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils, staff, and families

  • Promote a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment across all key stages

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 6 months experience working in a school setting with SEN and/or challenging behaviour

  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm under pressure and apply consistent behaviour support strategies

  • A flexible and empathetic approach with excellent interpersonal skills

  • A relevant qualification (e.g. CACHE Level 2/3, Team Teach, or equivalent) is highly desirable

  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection (training available if needed)
