Role details

  • Location: Colchester, Essex
  • Contract: Short-term cover, until Christmas
  • Hours: Full-time or part-time positions available (to be discussed)
  • Start date: Immediate or as agreed
  • School type: Special Educational Needs (SEN) provision / mainstream with SEN cohorts
  • Accountability: Report to the school SENCo / Headteacher, with support from TeacherActive

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons for students with varying SEND needs
  • Implement individualised Education Plans (IEPs) and support students to achieve targets
  • Manage classroom behavior and create a positive, inclusive learning environment
  • Monitor and assess student progress, maintaining accurate records
  • Collaborate with teaching assistants, other staff, and external professionals
  • Ensure safeguarding and welfare of all students in line with school policies

Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
  • Experience teaching or supporting children with SEND
  • Strong behavior management skills and resilience
  • Knowledge of SEN frameworks (e.g., ASD, SLD, SEMH) and relevant strategies
  • DBS on the update service or willing to undergo a new DBS
  • Adaptability, reliability, and excellent communication skills
