How to prepare for a job interview at TeacherActive

Know Your SEMH Stuff

Make sure you brush up on your knowledge of social, emotional, and mental health needs. Be ready to discuss specific strategies you've used in the past to support pupils with challenging behaviour. This shows you're not just familiar with the theory but have practical experience too.

Showcase Your Behaviour Management Skills

Prepare examples of how you've successfully managed difficult situations in the classroom. Think about times when you've used de-escalation techniques or built trust with a pupil. Being able to articulate these experiences will demonstrate your capability to handle the demands of the role.

Build Rapport with Interviewers

Remember, interviews are a two-way street! Engage with your interviewers by asking them questions about their approach to supporting pupils with SEMH needs. This not only shows your interest but also helps you gauge if the school’s values align with yours.

Stay Calm and Collected

Interviews can be nerve-wracking, especially for a role that requires calmness under pressure. Practice mindfulness techniques or deep breathing exercises before your interview to help you stay relaxed. A composed demeanour will reflect your ability to manage stress in the classroom.
