We are currently seeking a dedicated, resilient and experienced SEMH Learning Support Assistant / SEMH LSA to support pupils with very high needs. This role would suit someone who is confident working with pupils who may present with significant social, emotional and mental health needs, challenging behaviour, and barriers to accessing learning. Strong behaviour management skills are essential, as the successful candidate will be expected to use a calm, consistent and proactive approach to help pupils feel safe, regulated and supported throughout the school day.
The ideal SEMH Learning Support Assistant will be able to:
- Support pupils with very high SEMH needs on a one-to-one and small group basis
- Demonstrate strong and confident behaviour management skills
- Use de-escalation strategies calmly and effectively
- Support pupils who may display challenging or dysregulated behaviour
- Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils who require consistent adult support
- Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider pastoral/support team
- Help pupils develop emotional regulation, confidence and resilience
- Follow behaviour plans, risk assessments and individual support strategies
- Maintain firm but fair boundaries while using a nurturing approach
- Promote positive engagement with learning and school routines
- Contribute to a safe, structured and supportive learning environment
The successful SEMH Learning Support Assistant will need to be:
- Resilient, patient and emotionally intelligent
- Confident managing challenging behaviour
- Experienced in supporting pupils with high-level additional needs
- Calm under pressure and able to respond professionally to difficult situations
- Passionate about making a positive difference to pupils who need consistent support
