This position works particularly well alongside university or college courses such as Psychology, Education, Counselling, Law, Sociology, Health & Social Care, or similar fields. You’ll gain practical, hands‑on experience that brings your learning to life and looks fantastic on a CV if you’re interested in teaching, support work, social care or child‑focused professions.
Or Teaching Assistant positions can be long term and full‑time for the right person.
About the Role
You’ll be supporting children in a mainstream primary setting, helping them engage in class activities, build confidence, and feel happy and supported at school. Every school is different, but your day may involve a mix of classroom support, small‑group work, and helping pupils who need a little extra encouragement.
What You’ll Be Doing
Supporting children during lessons to help them stay focused and engaged
Encouraging positive behaviour, confidence and independence
Working with the class teacher to create a welcoming, safe learning environment
Helping children with reading, writing, phonics and other key skills
Supporting group activities, creative tasks and outdoor learning
Being a calm, reassuring presence for children who need it
Who We’re Looking For
Someone friendly, patient and confident around young children
Experience in childcare, youth work, tutoring, mentoring or volunteering is really helpful
People from care or support backgrounds often excel in this role too
A genuine interest in working in education and supporting children’s wellbeing
A positive attitude and a willingness to learn on the job
