About the Role

We are seeking a passionate and adaptable Music / IT Teacher to join our dedicated team at a specialist SEMH school in Ipswich. This is an exciting opportunity for a creative educator who can inspire and engage young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs through music and technology. The successful candidate will deliver engaging lessons that help students develop confidence, creativity, and practical skills while supporting their emotional and behavioural development. You will play a key role in creating a positive learning environment where students feel supported, motivated, and able to succeed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging Music and IT lessons tailored to students with SEMH needs
  • Use creative approaches to engage students who may have struggled in mainstream education
  • Support students’ emotional regulation and behaviour through positive strategies
  • Adapt teaching materials to meet individual learning needs and abilities
  • Monitor and record student progress and contribute to individual learning plans
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, support staff, and pastoral teams
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and structured learning environment

Requirements

  • Experience working with young people, ideally within an SEMH, SEN, or alternative provision setting
  • A passion for music, technology, and creative learning approaches
  • Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to engage and motivate students with a range of behavioural and emotional needs
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people

Desirable

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or relevant teaching qualification
  • Experience teaching Music, IT, or Creative Technology
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practice and behaviour support strategies
  • Experience using music or digital media as engagement tools
