Are you an experienced Learning Support Assistant who is confident supporting young people with challenging behaviour? Do you have experience working with pupils with SEMH, behavioural or additional learning needs? Are you resilient, patient and able to build positive relationships with pupils who may have struggled within mainstream education?

TeacherActive is working with a secondary-aged Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Monmouthshire that is looking for a committed Learning Support Assistant to join their team on a temporary basis until the end of the academic year. The successful LSA will support secondary-aged pupils who require additional behavioural, emotional and educational support. You will work alongside experienced teaching and pastoral staff to help pupils remain engaged in their learning, manage challenging situations appropriately and provide a consistent, positive presence throughout the school day.

The successful Learning Support Assistant will:

  • Have previous experience supporting young people with challenging behaviour, SEMH or additional learning needs
  • Be confident working within a PRU or alternative provision environment
  • Have strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
  • Be resilient, patient and able to remain calm in challenging situations
  • Build positive and professional relationships with pupils
  • Support pupils on a 1:1 and small-group basis where required
  • Be committed to helping pupils re-engage with education and achieve positive outcomes
  • Work effectively alongside teachers, pastoral staff and other professionals

Previous experience within a PRU, alternative provision or SEMH setting would be highly desirable. However, candidates with relevant experience from youth work, support work, residential care or other challenging educational environments are also encouraged to apply.

Pay: Β£90 per day
