Are you an experienced SEN Tutor with a passion for supporting children with additional needs? Do you have experience working with pupils with Down syndrome and delivering highly differentiated learning? Are you patient, nurturing and able to build positive relationships through engagement-based teaching? TeacherActive is proud to be working with a supportive school to recruit a dedicated SEN Tutor.

This rewarding opportunity involves supporting a Year 2 pupil with Down syndrome who has been out of education since February and is currently working at a very low academic level. The school is committed to ensuring the pupil receives personalised support to help rebuild confidence, engagement and access to learning.

The SEN Tutor role will begin with 1-hour sessions, 2-3 times per week, with tuition taking place in the pupil's home in Maidstone. The successful SEN Tutor will deliver highly personalised English and Maths activities through games, practical learning and engagement-focused approaches, whilst being mindful of the pupil's recovery from recent leg surgery and adapting sessions accordingly.

The successful SEN Tutor will have:

  • Experience supporting pupils with Down syndrome or similar SEND needs
  • Experience delivering highly differentiated, engagement-focused learning
  • A teaching qualification or relevant tutoring experience
  • Strong knowledge of adapting English and Maths activities to individual learning levels
  • A calm, patient and encouraging approach
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
