How to prepare for a job interview at TeacherActive

Know Your Stuff

Make sure you understand the role of a Behaviour Specialist in a PRU setting. Familiarise yourself with SEMH and SEND principles, and be ready to discuss your experience with challenging behaviour. This shows that you’re not just interested in the job, but that you genuinely understand what it entails.

Showcase Your Skills

Prepare specific examples from your past experiences where you've successfully managed behaviour or built positive relationships with pupils. Use the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) to structure your answers. This will help you demonstrate your strong behaviour management skills effectively.

Be Calm and Resilient

During the interview, maintain a calm and patient demeanour. The role requires resilience, so showing that you can handle pressure and remain composed will resonate well with the interviewers. They’ll want to see that you can bring that same energy into the classroom.

Ask Thoughtful Questions

Prepare some insightful questions about the school’s approach to behaviour management and how they support their staff. This not only shows your interest in the position but also helps you gauge if the environment aligns with your values and working style.
