TeacherActive is proud to be recruiting for a Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEMH school based in Surrey.
The school supports young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and is looking for a committed Teaching Assistant who can provide effective classroom support and help pupils engage positively with their education.
As a Teaching Assistant, you will work alongside teachers and other support staff to create a safe, structured and engaging learning environment. You will support pupils both in the classroom and on a 1:1 or small-group basis, helping with learning, behaviour, emotional regulation and general classroom activities.
The successful Teaching Assistant will ideally have:
- Previous experience working with children or young people
- School-based experience is desirable but not essential for candidates with relevant transferable experience
- Confidence supporting pupils with SEMH and challenging behaviour
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- A patient, calm and resilient approach
- The ability to build professional and positive relationships with pupils
- Good behaviour management skills
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing
- An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one
