TeacherActive is proud to be working with a specialist education provision in Leicester, supporting a young person with Severe Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and significant communication difficulties. The provision is committed to delivering highly personalised support, ensuring the learner can access education in a safe, nurturing, and structured environment.

We are looking to take on a Functional Skills Tutor to work on a one-to-one basis for 15 hours per week, delivered as 3 hours per day. The successful Functional Skills Tutor will be responsible for delivering engaging Functional Skills sessions tailored to the learner's individual needs, working alongside two dedicated carers who will be present at all times. The role will focus on developing core Maths and English skills while supporting communication, engagement, and personal development.

The successful Functional Skills Tutor will have:

  • A relevant teaching, tutoring, or Functional Skills qualification
  • Experience supporting learners with Severe ASD and complex needs
  • Experience working with non-verbal or minimally verbal students
  • The ability to adapt learning to meet individual needs and abilities
  • Strong communication and behaviour management skills
  • A patient, calm, and nurturing approach
