TeacherActive are looking for a Functional Skills Tutor to work in a specialist alternative provision in Derby.

Experience working in a school setting and experience with SEND pupils is essential.

QTS or QTLS is preferred but not essential as attitude, personality are absolutely key.

Desirable Attributes:

Have an ability to teach functional skills in English & Maths.

Have experience working with young people

Be highly organised with excellent communication skills

Have a desire to work with, inspire and support children

Have an interest in supporting young people with a variety of additional needs

Have experience supporting children with additional needs (desirable not essential)

Be a part of the school team taking part in the wider school environment

Have an understanding of behavioural management

Basic Role Description

Teaching Basic Skills in an SEND provision to pupils of varying abilities

Supporting children during lessons/school activities

Supporting staff/children during lunch and break times

Managing pupils personalised learning based on their individual need.

Delivering 1:1 or small group activities

Collecting evidence of children’s work to support their assessment

Providing physical management and care of pupils

The setting supports young people in KS3 & 4 who have been permanently excluded or are on the verge of permanent exclusion from mainstream schools. The aim is to either re integrate these young people back into mainstream schools/post 16 education/ apprenticeships or training through personalised education plans.
